Malaya Pitsiulak is the eighteen-year-old daughter of famous Lipa Pitsiulak. Lipa was the key person involved in helping to establish and maintain the original Pangnirtung Print Shop. In 1977 one of his stone-cut prints, The Disguised Archer,” was made into a Canadian postage stamp. The National Film Board of Canada has produced a film about him, simply titled Lipa”. He now specializes in stone carving, and his work his highly sought after and exhibited throughout the world. Daughter Malaya is also an accomplished stone carver, following the example set by her father. She makes her debut here with the 30th anniversary Pangnirtung Community Print Collection, and helps us to celebrate the 30-year span by creating a link through the generations to the original Pangnirtung printmakers led by her famous father.
